Meet the team

Nathan Harper

Hi I'm Nathan a Swimming teacher and owner of Poseidon Swim Academy, I have been teaching swimming for 6 years now at Sandal Castle Primary School, along with looking after the attendance and making sure children get to school on time !

I have played rugby all my life including playing for Leeds Rhinos, Wakefield Wildcats and Featherstone Rovers but unfortunately due to a broken back and other complications I had to give it up and retire.

I enjoy mountain biking in my spare time and my biggest dislikes are spiders, yuck !

Vikki Steel

Hi I'm Vikki :-)

I've always loved swimming from a very young age, swimming for Wakefield and for my school. I also enjoy horse riding and spending time in the gym keeping fit.

I have been involved in swimming teaching since i was 16 and have always loved seeing the children progress.

If your lessons are with me i will do my best to make you laugh and smile !

Joel Drury

Hi I’m Joel, I am a new staff member at Sandal Castle Primary School. My role is the KS2 nurture group assistant.

Sport has always been a huge part of my life and particularly football having represented both Leeds United and England in my school days. I also love coaching too, having qualifications in both football and ski instructing.

I can’t wait to join the Poseidon team and help children learn new skills and develop their swimming.

My main hobbies are going to watch the mighty Wakefield Trinity and playing the drums. My biggest dislike is the Castleford Tigers!

Lisa Taylor

Hi I'm Lisa

I have been a Teaching Assistant for the past 9 years in Huddersfield. In that time I have done Behaviour Support, 121 Support, Interventions, Nurture Groups, After School Sports Clubs and assisting children with additional needs in the swimming pool.

I enjoy all sports especially Rugby League and I love to watch my eldest son play on Sundays and am a big fan of Huddersfield Giants (sorry Nathan)

I like chocolate and strawberrys and dislike snakes and spiders.

Imagine, Believe and you will Succeed!! And remember Practice makes Permanent.

Julie Coyle

Hiya, I'm Julie.

I've recently returned to teaching swimming following a 15 year career in the Police force.

My true passion is swimming having competed and represented Yorkshire when younger.

My goal is to pass on the life skills, enjoyment and all the other benefits that swimming has given to me to everyone that I teach.

I have a degree in Physical Education and have worked as a fitness instructor/personal trainer in the past.

Another passion of mine is training my 9 week old puppy called Benji

Rebecca Pollard

Hi I’m Rebecca

I have been a swimming teaching assistant since I was 15 and enjoy watching children progress and overcome their fears. I have loved sports from a very young age, especially swimming and dance, but I am also extremely passionate about music.

If I don't end up teaching you on Mondays you will definitely see me throughout the week assisting other classes :-)

Callum Wood

Hi my name is Callum,

I have been a swimming teacher and an assistant for nearly a year and this is something that I always aspired to be from a young age.

I enjoy swimming and rugby; I have played rugby from the age of 10 and I have played at Wembley for Castleford Academy. I have also travelled to France and Spain with the team to compete against other schools.

If I do end up helping your children or teaching them myself, I will always try my best to make sure they enjoy their swimming lessons and leave with a smile.

Joel Russell

Hi I’m Joel and a new member of the Poseidon Swimming team. I have enjoyed swimming from being 5 years old – I was taught by Vikki!

After completing my GCSE’s, I spent a year studying at the Huddersfield Elite Sports Education Academy and I am now part of the Wakefield Academy of Sporting Excellence, Rugby League programme.

I enjoy the training, strength and conditioning sessions and game days. I also enjoy playing rugby for Dewsbury Celtic, going to the gym and watching Wakefield Trinity.

Emma Heath

Hello, my name is Emma.

I have always been an active person and a keen swimmer from a young age. I started helping out on the poolside at the age of fourteen and worked as a swimming teacher whilst studying at university.

My greatest passion is my horse; I spent three years studying for BSc Hons in Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation and I also run my own animal massage therapy business.

Ellis Heptinstall

Hi my name is Ellis.

I have been teaching at Poseidon since April 2017. I have a degree in Sport Coaching and I am a qualified Secondary Physical Education Teacher.

I started teaching swimming in the North East, 3 years ago, as a hobby along with teaching Dance whilst studying my undergrad course. Teaching is passion and I truly love what I do as a teacher. I am fortunate enough to teach both primary and secondary students and be able to see students grow across all age groups.
